The juniper is sharp and almost medicinal at first, but it softens quickly as orris root dusts over the blend with a cool, powdery iris. The blackwood note is a mystery: it reads as a dark, slightly charred cedar, lending a dry smokiness that keeps the fragrance from tipping into sweetness. Underneath, patchouli and labdanum rumble like wet earth after a storm, sticky and resinous, with labdanum's amber warmth rounding out the woody edges. The overall character is that of a leather armchair left out in the rain — refined but slightly abused.

This is an Oriental Woody scent that leans heavily on the darker side of the spectrum. It's thick and brooding, yet the iris prevents it from becoming a brute. Longevity is decent but not monstrous, a little over three hours of real projection, while sillage stays close to the skin after the first hour.
