Our take

Tribal Leather opens with a sharp, cooling clarity. The Chinese grapefruit is bitter and bright, quickly met by the medicinal, resinous quality of juniper. Saffron enters soon after, shifting the opening from a simple citrus blast into something warmer and more textured. It is a crisp, almost clinical start that feels deliberately pared back, letting the heart notes take centre stage without much interference.

The leather here is dry and soft rather than aggressively tarry. It pairs closely with the black violet, whose dark, slightly powdery floralcy keeps the suede-like texture from becoming too rugged. This is where the animalic accord makes itself known, not as a heavy musk but as a subtle, skin-like warmth that sits just beneath the surface. It strikes a neat balance between rugged and refined, never leaning so far into the leather that it becomes unwearable.

In the base, the raspberry note provides a quiet, jammy sweetness that blends seamlessly into the cashmere wood. It stops the drydown from becoming too dry or dusty. The vetiver adds a clean, earthy rootiness that anchors the fruit, ensuring the later stages do not tip into a generic sweet wood. It is a smooth, intimate finish that prioritizes comfort over boldness.

The raspberry can feel slightly out of place against the leather and violet. It lends a candied edge that occasionally clashes with the somber, smoky spices, making the overall scent feel a little uncertain about its identity. It is a beautifully textured perfume that stumbles slightly when the gourmand elements meet the more serious leather.
