Our take

V.S.O.P. opens with a sharp pinch of pink pepper and saffron that cuts through the air immediately. Cardamom and cinnamon follow, warm and slightly dusty, giving the entrance a kitchen-spice feeling rather than a polished boutique one. The heart brings two roses, Bulgarian and Turkish, but they do not smell fresh or dewy. They feel dried, almost pressed between book pages, with jasmine sambac adding a creamy weight that keeps the flowers from floating away. Cognac in the base is the star here, smelling like the inside of a snifter glass after the drink is gone. Tobacco leaf sits beside it, dry and faintly bitter, while amber and natural musk wrap the edges in a soft, powdery blanket.

This is a scent for a heavy wool coat and a dimly lit bar where the windows are fogged with cold. It suits someone who enjoys a fragrance that feels like a physical object, thick and present, rather than a light mist. The sweetness is there, but it is the sweetness of spiced sugar, not candy. It feels handmade and a bit rugged, carrying a slight roughness in its spice that prevents it from becoming too pretty. Wear this when the night is long and the air is biting, and you want to feel enclosed in a warm, aromatic cloud. It is for the person who wants to smell like a story, not just a pleasant memory.
