Our take

The opening is a bit of a trick: guava and grapefruit burst out with a tropical, almost fizzy sweetness that makes you wonder if you are in the wrong aisle. But give it ten minutes. The fruit fades into a warm, resinous heart of myrrh and benzoin, with black pepper sharpening the edges and heliotrope dusting everything in a soft, powdery haze. The dry down is where Tabac D’Or earns its name: a rich, vanillic tobacco wrapped in tonka and a whisper of patchouli, neither heavy nor cloying but undeniably golden.

This is the scent of a caramelized pipe tobacco left to cool on a velvet cushion in a mahogany library. It feels balsamic and sweet, with enough spice to keep it from collapsing into dessert. The construction is polished but not squeaky clean. A slight synthetic edge in the opening is the one rough seam, and the sillage sits politely close: a 3.85 that hugs rather than announces. Longevity is solid at over four hours, though not beast mode.

Who should wear it? Anyone who wants a tobacco that leans gourmand without tipping into sticky syrup. Skip it if you prefer dry, ashy tobacco or if heat makes your skin amplify sweetness. This is a cold weather companion, best for winter evenings and late fall nights. Wear it to a dinner where you intend to linger, or when you want to feel wrapped in something quietly opulent. Who needs a roaring fireplace when you have this slow burn in a bottle?
