La Temperance 14 opens with a nervous flutter of pink pepper and the soft, fuzzy static of ambrette seed—like powdered sugar dusted over a freshly buzzed scalp. The pink pepper is brief, a polite tickle rather than a punch, and almost immediately the iris-orris duo steps in with that cool, lipstick-smell powderiness that feels both retro and aloof. A whisper of hibiscus adds a tart, jammy blush, while rose lurks beneath like a memory of grandmother’s handkerchief. The drydown settles into a warm, dusky base: oriental notes and patchouli wrapped in clean musk, turning the whole composition into a well-worn cashmere cardigan that still smells faintly of the cedar drawer it lives in. The overall character is soft, powdery, and distinctly mainstream—elegant but cautious, like a woman who always chooses the beige trench over the red leather jacket. Unfortunately, the longevity is a cruel joke at 2.64 out of five, and sillage barely reaches polite whispering distance. This is for someone who wants to smell composed without announcing herself; skip it if you crave a perfume that leaves a trail. Best worn on a spring afternoon over a cream blouse, or on a fall evening when you want to feel wrapped in a gentle, floral-woolly haze—just bring a travel atomizer.
