Our take

You smell the opening and think, finally, a Davidoff that dares to be interesting. Campari and vermouth hit first, boozy and bittersweet, with a squeeze of bitter orange and a herbal jab of clary sage. It feels like a cocktail served in a leather armchair, not a club. But then the heart arrives, and cedar and orange blossom try to soften the bite, only for the base to surrender completely: tonka, caramel, coumarin, and hay turn the whole thing into a sweet, syrupy gourmand. The brilliant game, it seems, is a bait and switch.

The overall character is a velvet armchair in a dimly lit lounge, sticky with spilled amaro and dusted with hay. It is sweet, heavy, and decidedly synthetic in its later stages, like a candle left burning too long. The rating around 4/5 is generous for a fragrance whose longevity barely scrapes a 3 and sillage sits at a whisper. You will need to overspray, and then you will need to reapply.

This suits the man who wants to smell like a bar snack at an upscale aperitivo hour, but skips it if you dislike sweet bases or want a true aromatic woody scent. Wear it for a cool autumn evening or a winter date night, but not for work or heat. The opening promises a clever game, but the dry down plays checkers.
