Our take

Alberto Morillas knows how to dress a bargain, and Elevated Oud is his latest tailoring job for Zara. It opens with a brisk spritz of citrus and cardamom, a sharp green spark that quickly surrenders to something sweeter and more decadent. The heart is where the praline and vanilla come in, and suddenly you are standing in a patisserie that somehow shares a wall with an oud workshop. That clash is the whole point. The drydown settles into a woody, syrupy base of patchouli and sandalwood with the oud playing a supporting role, rounded and powdery rather than smoky or medicinal. This is Oud Lite, and unapologetically so. The overall character is like a dessert wine poured over a polished wooden desk: sweet, warm, and curiously formal. Longevity sits at a respectable three point eight four stars, enough for a workday, but the sillage is modest, more of a whisper than a shout. You will not part crowds, but you might attract a second glance from the person beside you. This is for the man who wants to dip a toe into oud without smelling like a ritual sacrifice. Skip it if you demand animalic depth or projection that fills a room. Wear it on crisp autumn evenings or deep winter nights, when the sweetness feels cozy rather than cloying. It is a safe, well-built fragrance. And sometimes safe is exactly the right seat to take.
