Our take

Velvet Incenso opens with a bright, almost medicinal snap of elemi and black pepper, a sharp citrusy resin that quickly gives way to the dusty, liturgical heart of frankincense and labdanum. This is not a wispy church incense but a dense, honeyed resin, sticky with amber and softened by benzoin. As it dries down, the vanilla and cashmere wood creep in, turning the smoke into something plush and intimate, while a thread of patchouli keeps the feet firmly on the ground. The overall effect is like pulling a heavy velvet curtain aside in a candlelit chapel, the air thick with old wax and warm balsam.

It leans undeniably heavy, more balsamic and sweetly smoky than ashen or raw, and it feels polished but not synthetic, a mainstream house’s take on a niche idea that lands well enough. The sillage is modest, hovering close to the skin after an hour, and longevity clocks in just below average, making it a three to four hour affair before it becomes a personal scent bubble. That is a weakness for the price point, but it also keeps the sweetness from cloying.

This fragrance is for the person who loves incense but wants it wrapped in a soft, vanillic blanket for cold winter nights, for after dark dinners or solitary evenings by a fire. Skip it if you crave projection or prefer fresh, citrus-driven scents, because this is unapologetically an amber wood for the fall and winter wardrobe.
