Our take

Fabrice Pellegrin’s La Fille de L’Air is a floral that promises flight but barely lifts off the ground. It opens with a bright, almost aggressive burst of neroli and bergamot, a citrusy slap that feels synthetic in a clean, laboratory kind of way. Then the orange blossom drifts in, and with it comes the surprise: neoprene. That rubbery, wetsuit note is the most interesting thing here, a slick texture that cuts through the sweetness like a plastic zipper on a summer dress. The drydown settles into a soft, powdery musk with a whisper of cedar, but by that point the whole thing is already evaporating. It wears like a white flower that got caught in a sudden hailstorm, pretty but battered and very short lived.

The numbers are honest. Longevity barely hits two hours on skin, and sillage is a polite arm’s length at best. That makes it a spring or summer morning scent, a light spritz before a brunch or a walk, but not something you’d rely on for a full day. It skews feminine and sweet, with a soapy, animalic undertone that keeps it from being a total marshmallow. Who should skip it? Anyone who demands presence or performance. Who should try it? Fans of modern, minimalist florals who don’t mind reapplying and enjoy that odd rubbery twist. It is a brief, pleasant encounter, not a romance.
