Sweet Courreges
Fragrance notes
Character
Sweet Courreges opens with a burst of aldehydic fizz, a peach so ripe it nearly splits, and a fistful of green leaves that snap you upright. Lemon and bergamot dart through the citrusy sparkle, but the orange blossom already hints at the creamier florals lurking beneath. That heart is a dense, opulent wall of tuberose, jasmine, and lily-of-the-valley, with orris root dusting everything in a slightly powdery haze. It feels like a 1993 white floral on steroids, and then the base hits: musk and tonka bean twist into a surprisingly animalic blend, civet and amber giving the whole thing a warm, fuzzy, almost illicit afterglow. The vanilla and benzoin soften the edges, but never fully tame the perfume’s core.
This fragrance is a white greenhouse on a humid spring morning, where the blossoms are already wilting into a sweet, musky rot. It is exuberant, synthetic in a deliberate, vintage way, and far more mainstream than its animalic streak suggests. The longevity and sillage are moderate, not beastly, which is honestly a relief given how dense the composition is. It works best in spring or summer daylight, when the heat coaxes out the floral and green nuances rather than letting the base turn syrupy.
Who should wear it? Anyone who loves big white florals but wants them tainted with something earthy, a touch of dirt under the petals. Skip it if you prefer translucent scents or cannot stand the whisper of civet. Is that retro funk too much for modern noses? Possibly, but for those who lean in, Sweet Courreges offers a charmingly dated, unapologetically sweet ride through a flower market at dusk.
