Our take

Seduction in Black opens with a tart, almost jammy black currant and a brisk bergamot, a fruity citrus snap that promises more than the rest of the bottle delivers. Within minutes, the middle notes of nutmeg, cardamom, and coriander swarm in, warm and aromatic but not especially complex; Olivier Cresp’s hand is visible in that clean, spicy architecture, but the execution feels more functional than inspired. The base of tonka, amber, musk, and Virginia cedar settles into a soft, powdery sweetness, vanilla-tinged and barely woody, like a cashmere scarf that loses its threads by midday.

The overall character is that of a fast-talking suitor at a winter market: appealing up close, but you sense the fabric is thin. It’s sweet, warm, and faintly synthetic, a mainstream oriental that doesn’t pretend to be niche yet still overpromises given its performance numbers. With a longevity of 2.87 out of five and sillage at 2.51, this fragrance evaporates before the entrée arrives, leaving only a ghost of tonka and amber close to the skin. What’s the point of a seductive veil if it vanishes before the main course?

It suits the guy who wants an affordable date-night scent for fall evenings or mild winter nights, someone who doesn’t mind reapplying every two hours. Skip it if you need projection or all-day staying power; it’s a shy whisper, not a statement. Wear it for a casual dinner or a snug afternoon, but don’t expect it to linger until the check arrives.
