Our take

Tartan opens with a surprisingly airy burst of hops and jasmine tea, like a crisp autumn morning where someone is baking sourdough just beyond a dew dampened field. That bread note is peculiar, a little yeasty and warm, but it quickly gets overtaken by a dense tangle of cedars and leather, with tobacco leaves curling through the gaps. The dry down settles into a quiet ground of cedarmoss and labdanum, the whole thing held together by a shimmer of Iso E Super and Hedione that keeps it from turning into a dusty antique. This is a fragrance built like a well-worn wool blanket: rough, sturdy, and deeply comforting, but with a faint sweet lining from the jasmine and amber that prevents it from being purely gruff. The longevity is decent at around six hours, though the sillage stays close, a handspan of scent rather than a roomful. That restraint makes it an ideal companion for a long walk in the woods or a fireside evening in late fall, especially given its 100% approval in that season. It suits someone who appreciates texture over sparkle, who wants to smell like a boot in the mud rather than a glass of champagne. Skip it if you need projection or find hop sourness or barn like bread notes challenging. Tartan is a quiet, angular scent, honest about its modest reach and all the better for it.
