Covet opens on a genuinely strange combination: Sicilian lemon and lavender first, sharp and herbal, and then dark chocolate arrives almost immediately underneath, an odd, slightly bitter sweetness that has nothing to do with a gourmand vanilla base. Pelargonium leaf adds a green, geranium-like note running alongside the chocolate, closer to leaf than to sugar. The lavender-chocolate opening settles into a comfortable, unhurried presence, holding on just long enough to register before it eases out.
Lily-of-the-valley, honeysuckle and magnolia take the heart somewhere much more conventional, a clean white floral that softens the strange chocolate-lavender opening into something more wearable. It is the least interesting stretch of the fragrance, pretty but familiar, before the base brings back some personality.
Musk, cashmere wood, teak wood, vetiver and amber close it out, warm and slightly woody, with enough amber to keep a trace of the chocolate's sweetness alive without repeating it outright. The overall shape is unusual: sharp and herbal at the start, safer in the middle, warm and unexpected again at the end.
Sillage stays modest, a small halo that a friend standing beside you would catch easily. It suits most of the year lightly, a shade more in spring and fall than in deep summer or midwinter, best on someone drawn to a fragrance with a genuinely odd opening act.
