Our take

Sacred Scarab opens with a bright, strange flicker of aldehydes and lemon, quickly joined by the earthy warmth of civet. The effect feels ceremonial, like a small bronze object lifted from a velvet-lined box, polished metal giving way to something animalic and alive. Zoologist Perfumes keeps the composition deliberately ornate, with plum and red wine bringing a dark, stained-fruit richness to the lotus at its center.

The base is where Sacred Scarab finds its full character. Myrrh, incense, benzoin, amber, labdanum, and styrax gather into a balsamic glow, while oakmoss, galbanum, cedar, and cade oil lend a dry, green, woody edge. Raisin adds a dense sweetness, and musk threads through the blend with a soft, slightly powdery feel. It is long-lasting, with the resinous notes holding firm on skin, while the fragrance creates a modest bubble that makes its presence clear in close conversation.

Sultan Pasha composed a perfume with plenty to examine, and Sacred Scarab rewards a patient wearer who enjoys animalic, incense-heavy scents with a polished finish. It carries enough richness for winter evenings and autumn settings, while the lemon and aldehydes give it useful lift in spring. Summer can work in a restrained application. Wear it to a gallery visit, a formal dinner, or any setting where a vivid amber scent feels at home. Its layered sweetness and civet will ask more of the wearer than a simple fresh cologne.
