Our take

Cuoium opens on animal notes and woody accords with almost no warning, a raw, skin-like heat that some wearers find thrilling and others find difficult to sit with. This clings hard from that very first minute, genuinely hard to scrub off, holding on stubbornly through washing and wear alike. Violet arrives as the only real softening agent, cool and powdery against all that rawness, though it never fully tames what came before it.

The base is where Cuoium becomes something else entirely, and it spends most of its life here. Leather, incense and cade oil build a smoky, tar-like darkness, cedar and labdanum adding depth, patchouli grounding everything in damp earth, and vanilla arriving last as the only sweetness in the entire composition. Cade oil sets this apart from a gentler leather; it smells of burning wood as much as tanned hide. Projection has real teeth, the kind that announces the wearer while still in the doorway, before anyone has seen who is standing there.

Winter is this fragrance's natural home, when the smoke and leather feel most fitting against cold air. It is not a polite fragrance; the animalic opening and tar-heavy base ask a lot of anyone wearing it, and the reward is a genuinely distinctive, uncompromising leather with real conviction behind it.
