Bee

Zoologist built a whole line around animals, and Bee is one of the more literal entries: beeswax sits right at the front, waxy and a little honeyed, with ginger and orange giving it lift and cutting the density early on. Cristiano Canali composed it, and it wears long, settling into a stay that outlasts most sweeter fragrances, though projection stays gentle, a close, warm haze that never drifts far from the wearer.

Mimosa, broom and heliotrope move in at the heart alongside orange blossom, turning the wax floral without losing the honey underneath. The yellow floral accord is doing real work here, pollen-dusted and slightly powdery, closer to a hedgerow in bloom than to a bouquet. Broom in particular adds its own sweetness into the mix, blending easily with the beeswax and orange blossom.

Vanilla, benzoin, tonka bean, sandalwood, labdanum and musk crowd the base, and this is where the animalic accord shows up, a low, skin-warm muskiness under all that sweetness, giving the base a rounder, less sugary character. Woody support from sandalwood and warm spicy touches round out a finish that lands closer to honeyed amber than straight vanilla.

Bee wears best in the cooler months, when the honeyed warmth feels most at home, layered close to the skin like the wax it's named for.
