Our take

Praline in Maple is a lie, and I mean that as a compliment. There is no praline here, no maple syrup glaze. Instead, Natasha Côté has built a nutty, woody ghost of a gourmand, a chestnut roasted over smoldering cedar and clove with a dusting of black and pink pepper that keeps things dry and restless. It opens with a sharp, balsamic snap from Peru balsam and olibanum, then softens into a warm, almost dusty guaiac wood and Indonesian patchouli. The overall character is like a worn leather armchair pulled too close to a dying fire, the scent of old wood, resin, and a faint, unsweetened nuttiness clinging to the wool of your sweater.

The sillage is shy at 2.71 out of 5, and longevity barely clears three and a half hours. This is not a projector. This is a close, intimate hum, a fragrance you wear for yourself rather than for the room. It feels natural, almost austere, with no synthetic sweetness padding the corners. That is its strength and its limitation. Fall and winter are its only seasons, and even then, it leans toward overcast afternoons or quiet evenings rather than anything festive.

It suits the person who finds most gourmands cloying, who wants warmth without sugar, spice without heat. Skip it if you crave projection or a sweet, sticky scent that announces itself from across the bar. Wear it when you are reading alone, when the light is low, and you want to smell like the memory of a cabin, not the cabin itself. One rhetorical question: why promise praline when you can deliver this refined, smoky honesty instead?
