Our take

A walk through damp woods after rain carries the same sharp green air that opens Like a Dog. The lime arrives bright and thin, cutting through the heavy stillness of the trees before giving way to a heart that feels thick and textured. Orris and butter create a powdery, rich creaminess that clashes with the dry, resinous fir and cedar. Oud sits in the middle of this mix, adding a dark, animalic weight that prevents the composition from ever feeling clean or polished.

This scent captures the messy reality of nature rather than a pretty postcard version of it. The Mysore sandalwood and tonka bean try to smooth the edges, but the oakmoss and vetiver keep the earthiness prominent and slightly rough. It is a fragrance that feels grounded and physical, wrapping the wearer in a blanket of amber and musk that feels appropriate when the air turns crisp and the ground is covered in wet leaves. It does not try to be elegant.

The butter note is a fascinating risk that does not fully pay off. Instead of a luxurious gourmand touch, it sometimes reads as a stale, heavy grease that muddies the beautiful woody accords. The lime vanishes too fast, leaving the wearer alone with a dense, slightly cloying creaminess that can feel unbalanced. It is a bold experiment that smells more like a fascinating mistake than a finished masterpiece.
