Idole by Lubin is a fragrance that wears its contradictions like a silk suit thrown over a leather vest. Olivia Giacobetti opens with a sharp splash of rum and bitter orange, the saffron and caraway adding a dusty, almost medicinal warmth that feels less like a party and more like the morning after one. The heart is where the trouble starts: sugar cane and palm tree try to soften the ebony’s dark grain, but the result is a sticky, synthetic sweetness that clings like dried syrup on skin. The drydown recovers somewhat as red sandalwood and leather emerge, but they arrive too late and too quietly. This is a woody-spicy scent that never fully commits to its own heft. It feels like a niche idea executed with mainstream restraint. The progression is interesting to someone who wants to study it, but for actual wearing, the longevity is a wispy three hours and the sillage barely crosses arm’s length.
