Our take

IV opens with a boozy slap of rum and davana, the cardamom adding a sharp aromatic flicker while cassis throws in a dark, jammy sweetness. It feels sticky and narcotic at first, like a leather jacket left overnight in a nightclub. The heart shifts into that promised leather note, but it’s not a dry saddle leather, it’s softened by palm tree, a green and slightly waxy touch that keeps things from turning too heavy, and jasmine that adds a floral whisper around the edges. Dry down is where IV settles into its true character: dates and vanilla create a rich, almost syrupy sweetness, underpinned by woody musk. The overall impression is a leathery dessert drenched in dark rum, a specific image of a date eaten in a smoky lounge with your eyes closed.

This fragrance feels synthetic in the best way, deliberately glossy and amplified, with longevity that easily pushes past six hours and sillage that stays close enough for intimacy but announces itself on a hug. It leans decisively toward night wear, especially in fall and winter, when that heavy sweetness can bloom without turning cloying. The 3.73 sillage rating is accurate, this is not a room filler, but a velvet rope. Who should wear it? Someone who wants to smell expensive and risky, not safe. Who should skip it? Anyone who finds gourmand leathers too sweet or who expects a classic chypre structure. IV is not subtle, it’s a weapon with a sugar coating. Is there a more convincing winter date night scent out there? Possibly, but few that feel this deliberately indulgent.
