Our take

You will not forget the first blast of Nerone. Raspberry and saffron collide with a coconut that is less sunscreen and more toasted, almost nutty, immediately setting a stage of syrupy opulence. The heart thickens with passionfruit and sugar cane that feel candied, sticky, and dangerously close to gourmand before tonka bean adds a powdery, bitter edge. Then the base rises like a shadow. Leather and oud bite through the sweetness, pulling it into something darker, animalic, with a vanilla that is not vanilla-sweet but charred and resinous.

This is a fragrance that wears like a gilded cage in a burning palace. It is synthetic in the best way, a calculated construction that never tries to smell natural. The sweetness is unapologetic, almost cloying for a moment, but the leather and oud keep it from tipping into dessert territory. Longevity is excellent, easily an eight-hour affair, though sillage stays close to the skin after the first hour, which may frustrate those who want to announce their presence from across a room.

Nerone is for the man who wants to smell expensive and dangerous, not safe and clean. Skip it if you dislike overt sweetness or prefer fresh, airy scents. This is strictly cold weather, fall and winter evenings, a night out where you intend to leave a mark without shouting. It is a rich, heavy, and deliberately excessive composition that knows exactly what it is.
