Nuit de Cellophane opens on osmanthus doing its usual trick, smelling like apricot skin and old leather in the same breath, an odd, slightly savory start for a fragrance built mostly around white flowers. Mandarin orange and a wash of green notes brighten it quickly, turning the whole thing bright and garden-fresh, an unexpected register for a house better known for heavier, resinous orientals. Jasmine and lily take over through the heart, adding a slightly bitter green edge alongside the fruit, while honey seeps in underneath and warms it without adding real weight. Carnation contributes a faint spiced lift, giving the floral heart a bit of backbone.
Projection is a small, modest bubble, present mainly for whoever is standing right next to you, and the wear itself is unremarkable, neither quick to vanish nor stubborn, not the kind of Lutens release that overstays its welcome. A faint trace of almond shows up late in the drydown, adding a soft, marzipan-like sweetness underneath the honey that most people miss on a first wearing. Wear it for spring or a warm afternoon, and expect a soft, slightly strange floral rather than the darker orientals the house usually gets credit for.
