Our take

Deep Garden 2023 opens with a crisp pear that feels more like a memory of fruit than the real thing, a washed-out sweetness that barely registers before the tuberose bulldozes in. And this tuberose is the star, but not in the creamy, lush way you might hope for. It’s a sharp, almost indolic white floral that carries a faint aquatic fizz, like a greenhouse after a rainstorm where the flowers have started to rot underneath the petals. The tonka bean in the base fails to anchor the chaos, offering instead a thin, vanillic dust that evaporates within the hour. The whole thing is a fragile, synthetic construction, a bright green stem snapped in half, too brittle to hold its own weight. For a Zara release, the blending is aggressive, and the opening is genuinely unpleasant if you’re not a fan of heady, animalic tuberose cut with cheap pear syrup.

And then you wear it, and you realize the performance numbers are the real tragedy. With longevity barely grazing two hours and sillage that hugs your skin like a guilty secret, this is a springtime fantasy that fades before the first coffee break. It screams daytime, specifically a dewy morning in April, but it screams so softly that no one will hear it. Suited for the tuberose obsessive who wants a quick hit without commitment, but anyone seeking presence or projection should skip it entirely. There are better cheap thrills, and there are better tuberoses. This one is a wilted petal you’ll forget before lunch.
