Our take

You have to respect Vixen for what it is: a perfectly executed mood board of early 2010s femininity, the kind that lived in glossy magazines and sparkly body mists. It opens with a crisp, soapy apple blossom that feels like a freshly shampooed ponytail, bright and a little sharp. The freesia slides in next, lending a sheer, almost watery floral lift that keeps things from tipping into candy territory. Then comes the vanilla, not the deep, boozy kind, but a soft, fluffy vanilla that powders the edges like a light dusting of sugar over freshly laundered linens. The overall character is a cheerful, approachable vanilla floral that smells like a lazy spring afternoon spent flipping through a beauty magazine on a picnic blanket. It is undeniably synthetic, but in the way that a Bath and Body Works candle or a drugstore lip gloss can be charmingly synthetic, not offensive, just transparent. Longevity and sillage are modest, as the numbers suggest, which means you will be reapplying, but the scent never grows tiresome because it sits so close to the skin. This is perfect for a daytime date, a brunch with friends, or any moment where you want to feel put together without trying too hard. Skilled perfumery snobs and those who demand beast mode projection should scroll on. But for anyone who enjoys a clean, pretty, uncomplicated vanilla floral that smells like sunshine and innocence, Vixen is a sweet little throwback, two thirds of a complete thought but a lovely one nonetheless.
