Romantina opens with a tart, almost sour burst of bergamot that quickly melts into Turkish rose, but this is no dewy, innocent bloom. The rose is powdered and slightly dusty, like the inside of a vintage compact. Iris and orange blossom arrive to thicken the haze, while patchouli and vetiver ground things with an earthy, almost rooty undertow. The tuberose is there, but it’s muted, behaving itself. Then the base creeps in: a warm, animalic hum of castoreum and musks, softened by vanilla and tonka, but never fully sweet. This is a chypre floral with a backbone, not a fluffy pink confection.
The overall character is that of a faded love letter, stained with coffee and rose petals, tucked into a drawer of old linens. It feels retro without being costume-like, and the balance between powdery florals and dirty leathery notes gives it a quiet complexity.
