Encens Chypre
Fragrance notes
Character
Encens Chypre argues that a chypre can be indulgent without losing its backbone. The opening mixes lime and elemi with peach, bright and resinous at once, while clary sage and artemisia pull the fruit away from candy. Jasmine sambac and bergamot keep the entrance crisp, but the heart deepens quickly through orris and rose geranium. Carnation and ylang-ylang add a powdery warmth that feels deliberate, not accidental, and the peach returns here to bridge the airy start to the dense base that follows.
That base is the real argument. Incense and oakmoss meet civet, castoreum, and oud, a combination that clings to fabric and skin through an evening out in cool air. Tobacco and tolu balsam round the edges, while black amber and musk soften the sharper woods. Palisander rosewood and Siam benzoin give the drydown a resinous glow that sits near the body rather than projecting outward, which suits a fragrance built to be noticed up close.
The composition is dense with materials, yet the density is the drawback. So many notes compete that none dominates for long, and the identity can feel crowded rather than focused. Encens Chypre rewards patience, but it asks the wearer to enjoy the blend more than any single idea.
