Our take

Aldehydes sparkle across the opening like a fine dusting of powder over polished wood. Cardamom adds a brisk, peppery lift to the bergamot before the rosewood settles in with its dry, rosy timber. The spices do not bite. They simply keep the entrance bright and composed.

Carnation and ylang-ylang push the heart toward a heavy, velvety floral that feels rooted in another era. Orris lends a cool, rooty texture that keeps the jasmine and rose from turning simple or pretty. There is a distinct earthiness here, a soil-like depth that pulls the flowers downward rather than letting them float.

Leather and castoreum give the base a rugged, animalic weight that feels entirely at home in a dimly lit room with heavy curtains and worn velvet chairs. Amber and oakmoss wrap that edge in a warm, mossy blanket while vetiver and patchouli ground the entire composition in dark earth. The overall impression is of an antique wooden chest sitting open on a cold stone floor.
