Our take

Mardi Gras opens with a brazen fistful of orange blossom and neroli, their citrusy sparkle immediately smudged by a civet so unapologetically animalic it feels like the perfumer reached into a fur coat and pulled out its secret. The florals don’t last long against the heat. Within minutes, benzoin and labdanum wrap everything in a resinous amber blanket, sticky and warm, while vanilla and musk settle into the base like a slow, sleepy pulse. This is not a clean or polite fragrance. It is a crowded balcony after midnight, the air thick with spilled drinks, perfumed sweat, and crushed flower petals stuck to the wooden slats. The powdery drydown softens the edges, but that dirty civet still purrs underneath.

The sillage is moderate, a little louder than its 3.41 rating suggests, and longevity is solid at nearly four hours. Those numbers make sense: it projects enough to be noticed but doesn’t shout, and it clings to skin without needing a reapply. Best worn in fall or spring, and it works day or night, though the warmth tilts it toward evening. Who should reach for it? Anyone tired of sanitized florals and ready for something with grit and nerve. Who should skip it? The crowd that thinks “animalic” means a hint of leather. This is a scent for people who understand that beauty can be unwashed. It feels niche in the best way: natural, messy, and entirely itself. One scent memory, one lost mask on the floor.
