Our take

Bertrand Duchaufour’s tribute to his father opens with a surprising sweetness: bitter orange glazed with davana’s fruity-herbal tang, softened by the clean, powdery haze of ambrette. That initial brightness is a ruse. Within minutes, the whiskey note arrives not as a boozy blast but as a warm, slightly smoky warmth, like the last sip left in a crystal tumbler after a long conversation. Cade oil and cabreuva add a dry, resinous bitterness that keeps the heart from tipping into cloying, while the base settles into a stern but tender leather and oak blend. The overall character is a study in faded elegance: imagine the cracked spine of a leather journal stored for decades next to a dusty whiskey decanter, the pages smelling of wood smoke and regret. On skin, it feels natural and somewhat shy. The sillage is modest at 2.84, and longevity barely hovers above three hours, which is a genuine disappointment for a juice that deserves to linger. This is not a fragrance for the club or a crowded dinner. It is for cold fall evenings when you are alone, perhaps reading, perhaps remembering. Wear it on a sweater under a wool coat, or skip it if you need your scent to announce itself from across the room. It whispers, and it expects you to lean in.
