Our take

Velvet Orchid is built heavy from the very first spray: rum and honey arrive before anything floral gets a chance, thick and a little boozy, with bergamot and mandarin doing almost nothing to lighten the load. Anyone hoping for a bright, easy floral will be caught off guard by how syrupy the opening actually is, since there's no green or citrus stretch to ease into it.

The heart tries to fit nine different florals into one place, orchid, jasmine, heliotrope, hyacinth, rose oil, narcissus, magnolia and orange blossom among them, blurring into a single, dense, honeyed bouquet instead of standing apart as separate notes. Suede in the base gives it a soft, leathery texture, and myrrh, sandalwood and labdanum push the whole thing further into amber territory, with peru balsam adding a sticky, resinous sweetness under the vanilla. There's no denying the richness here, built for real weight and entirely unbothered by how sweet and dense it gets, closer to a fur coat than a light layer. It's suited to evenings and colder weather more than anything casual, a scent built for presence more than restraint.
