Our take

Tobacco Oud opens on a single note: whiskey, sharp and boozy with none of the usual citrus or greenery to soften the entrance. Cinnamon and coriander move in fast, warm and slightly dry, before the base takes over almost entirely, tobacco, oud, incense, sandalwood, patchouli, benzoin, vanilla and cedar all stacked into one dense whole. There is barely a top-to-base journey here; it feels built to arrive at its final form almost immediately and stay there.

There is a lot happening in that base, but it comes across as one unified accord instead of eight separate notes competing, dark, sweet and resinous with the oud giving it a slightly medicinal edge. Benzoin and vanilla keep a thread of sweetness running underneath the tobacco and incense, so it never turns purely bitter or ashy. Longevity is properly long-lasting, and sillage sits at the upper edge of modest, warming the air right around whoever stands close. It is strictly a cold-weather, after-dark fragrance, built for winter nights when smoke and incense feel warm and enveloping, best suited to a heavy coat, not a light jacket.
