Our take

White Suede opens strangely for a Tom Ford daywear release: thyme and black tea instead of the usual burst of citrus, dry and faintly bitter before saffron and lily-of-the-valley round it into something floral. Despite the name, it never reads as leather outright; the suede shows up only as texture, a soft nap under the rose and saffron, an implication of leather, not the real thing. Green touches from the thyme keep surfacing throughout, giving the whole composition a slightly herbal, unglamorous backbone that most florals in this category skip entirely.

The base is where it earns its keep: musk, sandalwood and olibanum give it a warm, powdery finish, dry and a little austere. Staying power holds at a fair, average level, and the trail is modest, caught mainly by whoever stands close enough to notice the saffron. It suits cooler weather best, spring through fall, and wears equally well on a man or a woman, which feels like the actual point of the bottle. There is little sweetness and no real citrus punch here, so anyone hoping for a brighter, louder daywear scent should look further down the shelf.
