Our take

Patchouli usually promises something dark and heavy, and White Patchouli spends its whole runtime arguing against that reputation. Coriander and bergamot open crisp over a wash of white flowers and peony, and by the time patchouli shows up in the base it has been filed down into something powdery and clean rather than the damp, earthy version most people associate with the note. Ambrette and jasmine keep the heart soft, and woody notes with a touch of incense give the base a little smoke without turning heavy. Staying power is strong, the composition holding its character long after the citrus opening is gone, and what reaches other people stays intimate, drifting only to whoever is near you.

Someone who finds classic patchouli too dense or too retro will find this version far more approachable, built on restraint, not on weight. Composed by the perfumers at Givaudan, it works equally well in the morning and after dark, which is unusual for a patchouli-forward fragrance usually built to lean into evening. Cool, crisp air suits it best, letting the citrus opening play against the chill, and that restraint is really what makes it wearable across the whole season.
