Our take

Cape Wrath opens with a bracing slap of green, angelica root and galbanum meeting elemi’s citrusy resin, all dusted with pink pepper. It feels like walking into a coastal gale — fresh, bitter, and nervy. The heart turns gauzy and contemplative: geranium’s rosy bite softens into mastic’s piney, tear-like resin, while frankincense adds a dry, liturgical stillness. Then the base sinks into a wet, peaty blend of oakmoss, seaweed, and vetiver, with ambergris and ambrette lending a slightly salty, animalic warmth. The overall character is a solitary cliffside in spring, where salt spray mingles with crushed herbs and damp stone. It’s natural and uncompromisingly niche — nothing sweet or crowd-pleasing about it.

Performance is the rub. With sillage hovering near 2.77 and longevity just above 3, this is a skin scent that whispers and fades within four hours. You’ll need to reapply if you want it noticed, which is a shame given the artistry. It feels best in spring or fall, daytime rather than evening — a contemplative walk, not a night out. The person it suits has a quiet, introspective streak; someone who loves green, mossy, marine scents and doesn’t need to announce their presence. Skip it if you crave projection, longevity, or anything with a sugary hook. This is a restrained, beautiful sketch of the Scottish coast, lovely but fleeting. Isn’t that always the way with the best views?
