Our take

Strangelove NYC’s Melt My Heart opens like a velvet-lined box of dark chocolates pried open in a rain-soaked forest. Bergamot and mandarin flicker with ginger’s bite, but the absinthe and nutmeg already coil in the shadows, green and narcotic. The heart is a study in contradictions: orris root’s cool, powdery iris floats over a syrupy ylang-ylang while clary sage threads an aromatic, almost herbal seam through the sweetness. Then the oud arrives, not the barnyard bomb but a smoothed, earthy leather that settles into the chocolate accord like a truffle dusted with cocoa and soil. It feels intimate rather than loud, a scent that hovers close with a sillage rating of 3.29 out of 5 and moderate longevity at 3.85. This is a niche composition through and through, Christophe Laudamiel’s workmanship evident in every accord, but it never shouts for attention.

Who should wear it? The person who wants their gourmand tinged with melancholy, someone who prefers a dark kitchen at midnight over a candlelit dinner. Skip it if you crave fresh citrus blasts or beast-mode projection. It thrives in the deep cold of winter and the damp of fall, and it was made for night hours, 89 percent of its votes landing there. A beautiful, dusty jewel, but one you must lean in to smell.
