There is a certain impatience to L’Eau d’Issey Rose & Rose. It opens with a bright, tart raspberry and a crisp pear, both buffered by a flick of pink pepper that keeps things from tipping into jammy sweetness. The rose arrives quickly, not as a single bloom but as a chorus: Bulgarian rose lending a honeyed plushness, osmanthus adding a suede-like apricot fuzz, and an unnamed second rose that feels more dewy and translucent. Together they form a floral that is unmistakably fruity, but the fruit never overwhelms the petals. It is a clean, almost glossed rose, like a watercolour still wet on the page.
The drydown turns toward a soft cashmere wood and a whisper of amber, with patchouli grounding the sweetness just enough to keep it from floating away entirely. This is where the fragrance reveals its main weakness: the base is lovely but fleeting.
