Our take

Malt by Akro opens with a sharp slug of whiskey, but before you can settle into that warmth, a briny strand of seaweed cuts through, pulling the scent into strange, soggy territory. The leather and rum arrive quickly, not as a polished jacket or a sweet cocktail, but as something worn and salted. Patchouli creeps in underneath, dusty and dry, trying to anchor the whole thing to earth. By the drydown, the animalic rumbles start to surface, and you are left with a faint, dirty skin musk that feels more like a memory than a presence.

The overall picture is a leather satchel that fell off a boat, soaked in seawater and cheap whisky, then left to rot in a coastal bar. It is not sweet, not fresh, but a weary, synthetic blend of aquatic and boozy notes that never quite harmonize. The numbers are honest: longevity sits around three and a half hours, and sillage barely reaches a whisper. This is a fragrance for the person who wants to smell interesting up close, not announced from across the room. Skip it if you crave projection or a clean, uplifting scent. Wear it on a damp autumn evening, or a late winter night when the air already smells of rain and regret. Is it a masterpiece? No, but it has the courage to smell like a mistake.
