Our take

Akro’s Rise opens with a slurp of piña colada, the pineapple syrupy and the coconut water more from a can than a husk. It’s a sweet, fruity blast that feels almost aggressively tropical for the first few minutes, but Olivier Cresp knows how to pivot. The tiare flower and frangipani step in like a floral breeze shaking off the beach bar, while a buttery toffee note melts through the heart, turning the whole thing into a gummy, sun-warmed dessert you’d order from a poolside cabana. As it dries down, ambroxan and sandalwood provide a clean, slightly salty base, though the woods are so thin you’ll catch only the ghost of a spine.

This is a fragrance that sounds louder than it performs. The sillage barely reaches a whisper after an hour, and longevity taps out around three, which makes the 3.56 rating feel generous. You get a vivid, specific image of a pink cocktail sweating on a white plastic table, sweet and synthetic in a way that’s charmingly uncritical — no pretense here. It suits someone who wants a quick sugar fix for a spring afternoon or a beach day, a spritz-and-go juice that asks nothing of you. Skip it if you crave depth, projection, or anything that doesn’t evaporate before the second date. What’s the point of a tropical escape if you have to reapply every time you blink? Wear it on a sunny morning with wet hair and a linen shirt, and accept that it will fade before your coffee does.
