Our take

Gold Leather opens with a boozy slap of rum and plum, sweet and sticky, quickly cut by bitter orange and a sharp saffron that feels almost medicinal. The heart is where things get weird, eucalyptus and artemisia twisting the fruity leather into something herbal and dusty, like a bar mat that’s been left overnight in an absinthe spill. On the dry down, the leather settles into a smoky, woody base of oud and guaiac, but it never quite shakes that hollow, synthetic ache that makes it feel like a costume rather than a second skin.

The overall character is a boozy leather jacket worn in an abandoned autumn carnival, the Ferris wheel creaking in cold wind, a half-drunk bottle of spiced rum on the ground. It’s sweet but not cloying, heavy but not oppressive, with a mild, almost powdery dryness that keeps it wearable. The longevity is modest, around three to four hours, and the sillage stays close, never demanding attention. That’s its weakness, it disappears before you finish the third act.

This one suits the person who wants a touch of animalic warmth without full commitment, someone who likes stories told in whispers rather than shouts. Skip it if you crave beast mode projection or a photorealistic leather. Wear it on a crisp fall evening, dinner or drinks, nothing too formal. It’s a comfortable compromise, but sometimes a compromise is exactly what you need.
