Our take

Quince and apple give Dolce Amalfi an unusual fruit profile to open on, tart and slightly floral rather than the citrus most Mediterranean-inspired scents reach for. Cardamom and saffron add spice almost immediately, so the fruit never gets to sit on its own for long before warmth moves in underneath it.

Cloves and tolu balsam take the fragrance into darker territory through the heart, incense adding a faint resinous lift that pulls the composition away from anything purely fruity or sweet. The balance feels like a spiced dessert wine, warm and a little resinous, an unusually restrained mood for a house known for loud, sweet gourmands.

Vanilla, tonka bean, amber, cedar and musk build a substantial base, and the extra time spent on skin pays off best right here. The tonka and vanilla thicken as they settle, cedar giving them a dry, woody frame that keeps the sweetness textured and grainy, and the whole combination lingers on skin for a long while, well outlasting the quince and cardamom that opened things. Sillage stays in a modest bubble around the wearer, noticed at conversation distance. It suits cooler weather best, though the fruit at the top keeps it light enough for early autumn too, before the resin and spice fully take hold.
