Our take

Don opens with a rogue’s gambit, pairing the dry, peppered bravado of gunpowder with a shot of whiskey that carries a caramel burn. The spun sugar arrives not as a cheap candy thrill but as a dark, crystallized sweetness that coats the throat, smoothing the edges of smoke and tobacco leaf. It settles into a warm, woody fougere foundation, but the usual lavender is swapped for a persistent aromatic tense — think leather-lined study with a last call to arms. The overall character is a well-maintained air of controlled recklessness, like a man who sets his own watch ten minutes fast.

But here is the rub: for all its swagger, Don wears a short leash. The sillage barely clears an arm’s length, and the longevity taps out after a workable but unremarkable four to five hours. You get the impression of a dramatic entrance that fades before anyone asks your name. It feels niche in its refusal to go crowd-pleasingly sweet or smoky, but the execution is too polite for the story it wants to tell. This is best suited to autumn nights and deep winter, worn by someone who wants to smell interesting at close quarters — a date, a fireside drink, a leather jacket that barely covers the chill. Skip it if you chase compliments from across the room or need a scent that lasts through a double shift. Don is a loaded revolver with a very short barrel.
