Freesia, pepper and apple open Lacoste Pour Femme with an unexpected crunch, more green apple skin than orchard sweetness, before pepper adds a dry, faintly sharp snap. Violet, heliotrope, jasmine, hibiscus and rose thicken the heart into a proper powdery floral, softer and more old-fashioned than the crisp opening suggests. Suede, sandalwood, cedar, incense and labdanum close the base, warm and slightly leathery underneath all that powder. The hibiscus is a small but welcome surprise in the heart, adding a faintly tart, almost fruity edge among all that violet and rose.
Longevity holds at a moderate clip, present but not assertive, and the sillage kept close to the wearer, tidy rather than expansive. The suede base is the most interesting part, giving what might otherwise be a plain floral some genuine texture and warmth. The incense in the base is subtle but adds real depth beneath all that powder.
This works well for the office or a lunch meeting, somewhere a floral needs to read as put-together without asking for attention, and the suede gives it just enough grit to avoid feeling old-fashioned.
