Our take

When cinnamon and lavender open together this sharply, it's clear London for Men is aiming for something old-fashioned before bergamot even has a chance to lighten things up. Leather and mimosa take the heart somewhere darker and a little animalic, and by the base, tobacco leaf, guaiac wood, opoponax, and oakmoss turn it dry, mossy, and dense, closer to a worn saddle than a modern aftershave.

Antoine Maisondieu built this around a classic fougère-leather shape rather than anything trend-driven, and it smells the part, comfortable in that older style without chasing anything modern. Longevity is an average run, not the fragrance's strong suit, and the sillage keeps things intimate, not loud.

Fall and winter make the most sense for it, when cinnamon and leather feel warm, not harsh, and evenings suit its dry, mossy character better than daylight hours do. Oakmoss and opoponax give the drydown a dusty, old-world finish that lingers quietly once the top notes have burned off.

Anyone who likes their fougères dry, dark, and leather-forward will find a lot to enjoy; anyone wanting fresh citrus or clean laundry musk should look somewhere else entirely.
