Ensang Noir
Fragrance notes
Character
The city balcony is quiet at this hour. A glass of cold water sits beside a plate of sliced cucumber, its cool green scent drifting upward with the fizzy lift of aldehydes. Black currant adds a deep, tart stain to the air, while coriander brings a dry, leafy edge that keeps the fruit from feeling sweet. The open air carries the scent gently to the person leaning on the railing next to you, where it lingers for a long while without ever dominating the space.
Red rose soon takes the lead, thick and velvety, supported by magnolia and peony. The flowers feel rich rather than bright, their petals heavy with moisture. Beneath them, incense coils through the stems, and vetiver anchors the bloom with an earthy, bitter root. Birch lends a charred, smoky dryness that blends into opoponax and patchouli, giving the floral heart a dark, resinous weight that stays close to the skin.
A slow drip of caramel appears in the final layer, but it never turns the fragrance sugary. The sweetness is muted, wrapped in the bitter smoke of the base and the tart memory of the currant. The scent remains present on the wrist long after the glass is empty, its woody resin clinging to the fabric of a sleeve and the warmth of the skin.
The aldehydes can feel sharp and metallic in the first few minutes, almost scratchy against the soft rose. That bright, synthetic opening may put off those who prefer a smooth, seamless entrance into a fragrance.
