The evening air is cool against stone steps, and a glass vial releases its first breath of bitter green artemisia softened by bright bergamot. The initial spray feels sharp and herbal, cutting through the stillness of a courtyard lit only by the glow from nearby windows.
Cloves and rose soon rise from the heart, joined by jasmine and cassis, with ylang-ylang and geranium adding weight. Labdanum ties the flowers to a resinous center. The mix feels warm and spicy, yet the rose keeps a fresh edge that prevents the blend from turning heavy.
Beneath it lies a dense base of oud, cypriol, frankincense, and oakmoss. Cumin and patchouli push the scent toward earthy darkness, while pink pepper, guaiac wood, and benzoin add dryness. Musk lingers in the background, letting the woods and resins take the lead.
Composed by Hany Hafez, this oriental blend carries a strong animalic edge from the cumin that will not suit everyone. The note feels blunt at times, overshadowing the finer floral details and making the overall impression rough rather than polished.
