Our take

Jimmy Choo’s Stars opens with a bright, sticky burst of candied orange, orange so glossy it feels like you’ve just peeled a fruit rolled in sugar. That sweetness doesn’t retreat but instead thickens into a warm toffee center, softened by a powdery orchid that keeps the whole thing from cloying. The base is where the chypre structure shows its bones: patchouli turns the sweetness earthy, sandalwood adds a creamy, woody anchor, and the whole composition settles into a scent that is sweet without being girlish, warm without being heavy. If this fragrance were a single image, it would be a woman in a camel coat on a brisk autumn afternoon, hair catching the low sun, holding a paper cone of candied nuts. The synthesis feels deliberate but not stiff, more polished than niche but more interesting than your average mall floral gourmand. Its weaknesses are plain: longevity and sillage hover around three and a quarter stars, which means it stays close to the skin after a few hours and won’t announce your arrival from across the room. This is a scent for someone who wants a cozy, sweet-patchouli warmth without the drama of a full-blown oriental or the innocence of a straight gourmand. Skip it if you recoil from any hint of caramel or prefer your patchouli dry and camphoraceous. Wear it for a long Sunday brunch, an afternoon at the farmer’s market in late September, or a dinner where you want to smell like you’re having a good time without trying too hard. It wears best in the cold, when the toffee and sandalwood bloom against your scarf.
