Our take

Absinthe opens 212 VIP Black with a bitter, herbal snap, licorice-adjacent and a little medicinal, a combination that reads more like a strong herbal liqueur than a typical men's citrus opening. There's a faint licorice sweetness woven through the top as well, keeping things herbal and a little bitter without any real citrus to cut through it.

Lavender smooths the transition into the heart, familiar and calm against all that bitterness, before black vanilla husk takes over for the finish, thick and bitter rather than sugary-sweet. The vanilla never really turns conventionally sweet, staying dark and bitter through to the finish. A soft, powdery muskiness lingers underneath the vanilla too, giving the base a slightly chalky texture toward the finish.

Longevity runs long, the vanilla husk base holding its bitter-sweet warmth without thinning early. Sillage stays modest, felt by whoever's close enough to catch it, not projected far past that. Cold weather suits it best, when the bitter warmth feels grounded, more suited to evening than a bright afternoon. 212 VIP Black stays bitter and herbal at its core even through the sweet vanilla finish, an unusual structure that never fully settles into simple sweetness.
