Our take

True Ood opens with a dusty, almost metallic saffron tangling with olive’s bitter green and osmanthus’s elusive leather-apricot sweetness — that freesia trying to float above feels like a polite guest at a very loud party. The heart is where Jordi Fernández lets Thailand oud do its thing: barnyard-adjacent, medicinal, with myrrh’s resinous smoke and jasmine’s indolic breath pushing it into animalic territory. The drydown pulls back slightly into Akigalawood’s peppery woodiness and a patchouli-musk base that feels more synthetic than the rest, a bit flat after the middle’s storm. All in all, this wears like a velvet-lined iron box — soft to the touch, but you know it could bruise.

Given the longevity hovering at 3.69 and sillage under 3, True Oud never becomes the room-dominating beast its namesake suggests. It stays intimate, almost shy for an oud fragrance, which is either a relief or a disappointment depending on your expectations. It leans decidedly cold-season: winter’s wool and fall’s damp earth suit its heavy, balsamic warmth. Night wear is obvious — this is a dinner jacket or a fireplace scent, not a sunny lunch. Those who want a feral, screeching oud will find it too tame. Those who appreciate a curated, slightly mainstream take on barnyard with a floral edge will find it elegant without being a coward. One vivid image: it’s the smell of a leather armchair that’s been quietly soaked in amber and forgotten jasmine, cozy but never safe.
