Our take

Elixir d'Amour 2018 belongs on the wrist of someone who treats perfume as a deliberate statement rather than a polite background habit. Parfums d'Elmar composed this unisex release with Mark Buxton at the helm, and the result argues that sweetness and weight can coexist without either taking over the room. The opening brings saffron and pink pepper across fig leaf and bergamot, a bright and spicy start that prepares the ground for what follows.

That argument strengthens once raspberry and Bulgarian rose enter alongside guaiac wood and water jasmine. The fruit is rich, the flower is deep, and the wood gives them a firm spine. Base notes of amber, oud, vanilla, caramel, amyris, labdanum, patchouli and musk carry the blend forward with real presence, so the scent stays close enough to be noticed yet far enough to draw people in, and it remains vivid through a long evening without fading into nothing.

It suits a formal dinner where the table is lit by low lamps and the conversation runs late. The caramel and vanilla never tip into a sugary mess because the oud and patchouli keep the edges defined. This is a fragrance that feels like walking into a wood-paneled room wearing a silk scarf that still smells of the market where you bought it that afternoon.
