Our take

Amber by Olive Perfumes is unapologetically for the person who treats perfume as a heavy, enveloping cloak rather than a subtle finishing touch. The opening is a sharp, medicinal collision of saffron and star anise, threaded with a pale lily-of-the-valley that only barely softens the blow. It is not a gentle introduction. This is a fragrance that demands attention in its first ten minutes, pushing a bracing, slightly bitter spice that feels far more architectural than decorative.

The argument for wearing it rests on how those biting top notes fold into a heart of creamy sandalwood and gritty patchouli. The contrast is the point. The wood does not arrive to soothe the spice. It arrives to thicken it into something dense and resinous, as the underlying amyris adds a smooth, balsamic weight that pulls the entire composition downward. It smells expensive and intentionally heavy, trading freshness for a deep, powdery heat that feels deliberate and unyielding.

The limitation is that this density lacks a certain grace. The lily-of-the-valley is completely bulldozed by the base, leaving the floral accord feeling like a technicality on the label rather than a living part of the scent. It is a fragrance of only two speeds: the initial sharp sting and the heavy, amber-drenched finale. If you want a scent that breathes or changes shape, this one stays firmly in one, unwavering place.
